GET SCHOOLED: Fun Facts about Spurs and Heat Players

The NBA Finals are among us, and things have been pretty nerve racking so far! So, I’m bringing you a silly, non-trash talkin’ post full of fun facts about both teams players.

Lebron James:

Owns part of Liverpool FC.

Has a secret handshake with Jay-Z.

His highschool coach would make him do 10 push ups every time he would curse.

Writes and eats with his left hand, but shoots with his right hand.

Tim Duncan:

Started out as a swimmer and only began playing basketball in ninth grade after Hurricane Hugo destroyed the only Olympic-sized pool on his home of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Has worn his shorts backwards in practice since his college days.

Collects swords and knives. He owns several historic pieces including a samurai sword.

Dwyane Wade:

Chose the number 3, because it represents the Holy Trinity.

Majored in broadcasting and hopes to be an announcer once his playing career ends.

The spelling of his name is a proofreader’s nightmare. SLAM magazine once ran an entire feature on him calling him “Dwayne”- Woops!

Tony Parker:

Ambassador for ‘Make A Wish’ France

Suffered a serious eye injury when he was hit by a shard of glass at a New York City nightclub. He was a bystander in a fight between hip-hop stars Chris Brown and Drake.

Once owned a nightclub called Nueve Lounge in San Antonio that ended up closing after only a year.

Chris Bosh:

Being a big fan of Kevin Garnett, he studied tapes and perfected KG’s spin move on the baseline. The first time they faced each other, he used it on Garnett and scored.

Was a member of the Engineering Club at Lincoln High.

Learned Spanish, and is now fluent in the language since living in Miami.

Started a major ‘video-bombing’ trend.

Manu Ginobili:

The gym in which he grew up playing basketball is now named after him (Estadio Manu Ginobili).

His nicknames are One and Neo, both references to the title character in “The Matrix.”

Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen:

All of his tattoos are 13 years in the making. His favorite tattoo? The “Free-Bird” text on his neck cause he’s a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan.

Kawhi Leonard:

His hands are 11.5 inches. Measuring bigger than an iPad screen. Um, what?!

Ray Allen:

Hasn’t had an alcoholic beverage since he was in college, he is 39.

He played a character named Jesus Shuttlesworth in the movie ‘He Got Game’. That nickname has since stuck with him.

Boris Diaw:

While playing in France, fans and colleagues would refer to him as “The French Magic Johnson”.

Slam-dunk Champion in the French League.

Udonis Haslem:

After kissing his new bride at the alter, they walked down the isle jamming to Tupac & Snoop Dogg’s “2 of Americaz Most Wanted”.

His back is covered with a tattoo of the map of Florida.

Chews on his mouth piece way too much during games.

Marco Belinelli:

His brother was his agent when coming over to the NBA from Italy.

Was a teammate of Chris Bosh’s on the Toronto Raptors in 2009-2010.

Shane Battier:

He has a charity which raises money to help send kids to college called the “Take Charge Foundation”, and every year he hosts an event called “Battioke” which all the Heat players join in singing karaoke all evening. Priceless!
