SIX PACKS ON ICE, NHL BLOG: The Good, Bad and Ugly of the Playoffs

Let’s talk playoffs and how they’re going so far this season.

We’ll start off with the series that’s already finished — the Canadiens and the Lightning. In my picks, I has Montreal winning in seven games, but they came out strong and brought their brooms to sweep Tampa Bay. Tampa was playing without goaltender Ben Bishop, but that’s still no excuse for not winning one game. Tampa, I was rooting for you. It just wasn’t meant to be this season.

The most surprising series for me has been the Kings and the Sharks. I had the Kings winning in my bracket in six games. What is going on Los Angeles? What’s even more surprising? Jonathan Quick staying in net after letting in goal after goal without being pulled. I was very against that. Keeping him in net is going to just destroy his confidence. I didn’t see a reason why he was forced to stay. Even if you don’t have confidence in your backup, put him in. In my opinion, the Kings are done. The Sharks will win it very soon.

Pittsburg and Columbus has been another surprising series. Who would’ve thought the Blue Jackets would even the series 2-2? I have Pittsburg taking this in six games, and that could still happen. I still believe the Pens will win this series, but I really enjoy watching Columbus being a force to be reckoned with.

Dallas isn’t letting Anaheim move on to the next round easy. Darnit. I have Anaheim going the whole way so I’m going to need the Stars to start losing. What’s interesting to me is that Teemu Selanne was a healthy scratch April 23. We get it, he’s retiring, but it still seems like a strange decision. And what’s with Anaheim not playing the full 60 minutes? Any team who gets complacent and doesn’t play the whole game isn’t going to win the cup. Get it together, Anaheim. Please?!?

Chicago is also having a hard time in its series against the Blues. That pick was tricky. St. Louis was missing the majority of their players but luckily for them, most were back for the playoffs. The Blues have the talent to go all the way, and they’re playing like it against a vastly talented Chicago team.
