Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, and the ECHL wants to do everything it can to help out. Breast cancer awareness month is in October, but the teams are not afraid to wear pink at any time during the season. While many of the teams wore pink jerseys to be auctioned off, some just auctioned off items such as autographed bags. Either way, no matter if you love a particular team or absolutely hate them, what they did to raise money for breast cancer research is amazing.
I know, I know, everyone is expecting me to put the Fort Wayne Komets‘ Pink the Rink jersey first, but this time I am not. (It is killing me though!) My top breast cancer jersey is the Cincinnati Cyclones. Not only does the jersey have the pink ribbon, it also has the words “strength, courage, love, faith and hope” behind the cyclone logo.
I also like the Elmira Jackals‘ Pink the Rink jersey. It is simple, yet effective. They even added some pink to the Jackal on the front. Wish I could have found a picture of Mike Vaskivuo wearing his. (Hint, hint.)
Another favorite of mine has got to be the Wheeling Nailers‘ jersey. They have the breast cancer ribbon behind the now pink Nailer logo. I also think that the way the pink fades into black is extremely effective.
And finally, the Fort Wayne Komets, (Never said they were not going to be on the list, now did I?) They went simple this year. Instead of the normal orange, white and black, they change the colors to pink, black, and white. The orange fireball logo was a pretty shade of pink and the bottom was trimmed with the pink ribbon.
I guess the saying is true – Real men do wear pink!
