The SPHL season has come to an end, and I know I am not the only SPHL fan that is upset about this.
The final round of the playoffs started Thursday when the Columbus Cottonmouths traveled to Pensacola for game one. Less then 30 seconds into the game, Pensacola scored. That was a preview of things to come. Within three minutes of the game starting, Pensacola scored three goals.
History was made in Pensacola when Cottonmouths head coach pulled goalie Andrew Loewen and sent in Shannon Szabados. That didn’t seem to affect the Ice Flyers as they went on to score nine total goals for a final score of 9-1.
Both teams headed to Columbus to play game two of the finals. Pensacola took the win 5-1.
Congratulations to the Pensacola Ice Flyers for winning their second President’s Cup. Rod Aldoff did a fantastic job this year as head coach, leading a Championship team back to the finals and taking the cup again.
Were you surprised by the SPHL playoffs?
