With round one over, the outcome is as follows.
Pensacola swept the Surge. Knoxville swept the Ice Gators.
The Peoria Rivermen were the No. 3 seeded team. They took on the No. 6 seeded team, the Columbus Cottonmouths. Game one was on Peoria home ice and the Rivermen took the win. Both teams traveled back to Columbus for game two. The Cottonmouths were not going down without a fight. Columbus came out with a winning score of 6-1, forcing a game three. Again, after a long day of traveling, both teams were set to face each other for a round one, game three. The Rivermen were hoping to win the game in front of their fans to advance to the second round. However, Columbus had another idea. Columbus took game three with a final score of 4-1. They’ve now advanced to the second round.
It was a great season for the Rivermen. I expect great things from this team next season.
The Riverkings faced the Huntsville Havoc in the first round. The Riverkings won the first game and headed back to the Huntsville home for game two. The Havoc weren’t ready for the season to be over. With a score of 4-2, the Havoc forced the second game three of the playoffs. Teams headed back to the Havoc’s home for game three. The Havoc came out on top with a score of 5-3.
The Huntsville Havoc will face off with the Columbus Cottonmouths in round two of the SPHL finals.
