Mickey Lang is currently in his first year with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. He was loaned to the Iowa Wild of the AHL making him one step below the NHL. The Reno, Nevada native is currently ranked fourth in scoring behind lead scorer and former teammate Brandon Marino. Mickey has played 46 games and has scored 37 goals. He currently has 23 assists. Mickey was named the ECHL Player of the Week for the week of February 10 to the 16, where the previous week he scored seven goals and added one assist for eight points. The 27-year old ended his big week by scoring the tying goal with nine seconds remaining in regulation. At 1:10 into overtime, Mickey scored the game winning goal. The Manhattanville grad currently averages one point per game. He started his pro career with the Quad City Mallards of the CHL before landing on his current team the Orlando Solar Bears.

1.)Who is someone you consider to be a mentor?

There are so many people that have had an impact on my life, including my parents, coaches, and professors. If I had to choose one person I would have to say my Grandfather. My Grandfather was a World War II vet and lived a very honorable life.

2.)What do you like to do in your off time, away from the rink?

When I do have time off, I enjoy being with my family and friends. I also like to get in a round of golf and love to play whiffle ball in the summer.

3.)What is most satisfying about your sport?

Every game is different and it gives you a huge adrenaline rush. It gives you a great camaraderie with teammates. It’s challenge to win and try to improve keeps hockey satisfying.

4.)How do you want to be remembered?

I want to be remembered as a winner and also as a player that earned everything.

5.)If you could be the head coach of a team for one year, what team would you choose?

That is a tough one, either the New York Yankees or the New York Jets

6.)If you have a nickname, what is it?

No nickname, friends and family just call me Mick

7.)Who has been your favorite person to have as a teammate this far in your career?

I have had so many great teammates that I can’t choose just one. A few guys that I have enjoyed being teammates with include Chris Galiotti, Bill Silengo, Scott Hudson, Danny Genovese, Anthony McIntyre, Jared Brown, and Matt Boyd.

8.)Do you have a quote or motto that you live by?

“Work Hard, Play Hard. Trust God” I like it so much that I had it tattooed on my arm haha

9.)If your life was turned into a movie who would you cast to play you and who would be your leading lady?

Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis

10.)All the ladies want to know, single or in a relationship?

Single

11.)If you could pick the next Sports Babe of The Day, who would you like it to be?

Alex Morgan or Holly Sanders

12.)If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it?

I would give everyone in my family a portion, and help out a few buddies. I would also donate some money to youth hockey organizations to get some kids involved in hockey who may not be able to afford it. Whatever I have left I would put in the bank and retire at a young age.

13.)Out of all the places that you have been to, which is your favorite and why?

New York City, it is the greatest place in the world!

14.)What is something that you have to do either before, or after a game?

I always have to say a prayer before the game, and then again afterwards.

15.)What team do you hope to play for in the future?

I never think about any teams in the future, I only focus on the current team that I am playing for. I couldn’t be happier playing for the Orlando Solar Bears so I only focus on my current team and try to do my best to help them win.

16.)Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Do you eat breakfast every morning?

I don’t eat breakfast every morning, I try to though and it is always a bowl of oatmeal.

17.)If you were not playing hockey, what would you like to be doing?

A coach or a teacher

18.)What has been one of the best teams you have been on and why?

My current team the Orlando Solar Bears, my 2004 high school baseball team and my 2009-2010 college hockey team. Every game with these teams, I truly felt like we would find a way to win and all the guys shared the same goal and desire to win for one another.
