With only 13 games left in the regular season, the SPHL is already adding pages to the history books.
The Pensacola Ice Flyers have taken over the top spot for season average attendance. The Ice Flyers are averaging over 4,000 fans a game. This record was previously held by the Huntsville Havoc. The Ice Flyers also had 114,537 fans attend the 28 home games at the Pensacola Bay Center this season. The Pensacola Ice Flyers have won the William B. Trophy for being the SPHL regular season champions.

On March 12th, the history of the SPHL changed forever. The Columbus Cottonmouths welcomed the arrival of their newest teammate, Canada’s two-time gold medalist women’s hockey team goalie, Shannon Szabados. Media reporters flocked to the Cottonmouths press conference March 13 to hear and meet Canada’s star. The Cottonmouths hosted the Pensacola Ice Flyers Thursday night. Before the game, Cottonmouths’ head coach Jerome Bechard had a Q&A with fans. He made it plain and simple for everyone to understand the situation.
Shannon didn’t start Thursday night. Goalie Andrew Loewen started against Pensacola. Pensacola came out on top with a 5-0 win against the Snakes.

On Saturday, March 15, Shannon made her pro debut in the SPHL. The Cottonmouths hosted the Knoxville Ice Bears. Despite the talent of Shannon and the rest of the Cottonmouths, they came up short and lost to the Ice Bears.
