SIX PACKS ON ICE, AHL BLOG: AHL Changes on Deadline Day

This past Wednesday was the annual trade deadline day in the National Hockey League. While some big names moves and blockbuster trades were made, the NHL and NHL players were not the only ones to see change on Wednesday. Many AHL rosters were shaken up as players became extra pieces to the trade puzzles this week.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward James Livingston from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2016. The Kings also acquired defensemen Brayden McNabb, forward Jonathan Parker and two second-round draft picks from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forwards Nick Deslauriers and Hudson Fasching. Both Livingston and McNabb reported to their first practice with the Monarchs Thursday morning. Deslauriers reported to the Rochester Americans Thursday. Fasching is currently paying hockey for the University of Minnesota.

Also reporting to Rochester is defenseman Rostislav Klesla. Klesla was originally traded from Phoenix to Washington before being traded to the Americans a day later.

Included in the original trade with Klesla was Chris Brown of the Portland Pirates and Phoenix Coyotes. Brown will report to the Hershey Bears. The Coyotes organization acquired forwards Martin Erat and John Mitchell.

The Ottawa Senators, parent club to the Binghamton Senators, acquired defenseman Patrick Mullen from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Jeff Costello. Mullen was assigned to Binghamton.

Ottawa also made a trade with the Anaheim Ducks which was an even AHL player swap. The Senators traded forward Andre Petersson for defenseman Alex Grant. Petersson will report to the Ducks AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals while Grant will report to Binghamton.

The Tampa Bay Lightning organization, parent club to the Syracuse Crunch and the Columbus Blue Jackets, parent club to the Springfield Falcons completed a trade that consisted of four AHL players. Syracuse acquired forwards Jonathan Marchessault and Dalton Smith in exchange for forward Dana Tyrell and defenseman Matt Taormina.

In the deal the Philadelphia Flyers made with the New York Islanders to acquire defenseman Andrew MacDonald, the Flyers traded Adirondack Phantoms forward Matt Mangene. Mangene will report to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

San Antonio Rampage goalie Jacob Markstrom was part of the trade between the Vancouver Canucks and the Florida Panthers which sent Roberto Luongo to Florida. Markstrom will be joining the Canucks organization.

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defensemen David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois form the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a second-round selection in the draft. Rundblad will join the Blackhawks while Brisebois will report to the Rockford IceHogs.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk from the Nashville Predators in exchange for future considerations. Dubnyk was assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Predators, parent club to the Milwaukee Admirals also acquired forwards Calle Jarnkrok and Patrick Eaves and a conditional third-round selection in the first from the Detroit Red Wings, parent club to the Grand Rapids Griffins, for forward David Legwand.

The NHL requires that in order for players to be eligible to be sent to the AHL for the remainder of the season, the NHL player must have been on that AHL roster by Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The AHL has its own trade deadline which is set for next Wednesday, Mar. 12.
