After winning UFC 167 Welterweight’s title belt against Johny Hendricks on Saturday, Georges St. Pierre recently announced he would be hanging up his gloves temporarily.
“Listen everyone. With a little thought about what’s going to happen. I have a bunch of stuff in my life happening. I need to hang up my gloves for a little bit,” stated St. Pierre. “Personal things happening and I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Now, TMZ is reporting that the reason GSP is stepping away from the ring is due to a deathly ill father and baby on the way. Wow, talk about two sides of the spectrum! Well, whatever is going on we wish him nothing but the best on the new life and prayers for his family in such a difficult time.
If expecting a baby and worrying over a sick parent wasn’t enough, he has also been ordered to pay his former manager, Shari Spencer, over 737K plus 20% of future revenue on various UFC Pay-Per-View fights, 20% of royalties from a 2008 UFC merchandise contract and 5% of future sponsorships revenue she helped manufacture.
Talk about a cold winter! Sheesh! He may need to pick up back up those gloves sooner rather than later.
