3rd & 10: LeBron in the NFL

I can’t believe I am writing this. However, it’s the offseason and somehow no one got arrested this weekend. So, here we are, LeBron in the NFL.

This conversation came about as organically as most in offseason talk. During the Heat game Sunday night LeBron lobbed a ball to Dwayne Wade for a layup. It prompted a reporter to ask LeBron if he could have played as a quarterback in the NFL. He replied that he could have; he understands how to read plays and has the athletic ability.

This then caused the former Redskins signal caller, Mr. Joe Theismann to offer himself up as LeBron’s agent. He told FOX sports that he thinks that LeBron ” ..could play another four years in the NBA before seriously trying the NFL. … There are not a lot of 38- or 39-year-old basketball players, but there are 38- and 39-year-old quarterbacks, so there’s always time for him.”

First off, that would be a rather ripe age to try and began a career as an NFL quarterback. Yes, LeBron played quarterback in high school for a short time until he switched over to the wide receiver position; but this hardly qualifies as real experience. Secondly, LeBron mused over whether he could play, but he hasn’t said he would like to join the NFL. There have been no hints that he could pull a Jordan and do two professional sports. Finally, LeBron is an amazing athlete but who knows if his skills in the NBA would even carry over to the NFL. He can see and read defenses, he is a great captain to the Heat; but this barely kisses the surface of what it is to be a NFL quarterback.

It’s cute that Theismann wants to be LeBron’s agent and mentor. But, come on, even he admits why he offered himself up for the task- “I need a job.”

I guess that he isn’t making much dough selling those prostrate pills…
