LAWS ON THE COURT: NBA Edition, Who’s in the Running for NBA MVP?

The 2012-2013 season is coming to a close, which means a lot of fans, are selecting their choice for NBA’s MVP 2013. Teams such as the Heat, Thunder, Clippers, Knicks and Lakers all have something or someone in common. Most Valuable Player. Sure everyone already assumes LeBron James is going to win it for the second year in a row, but I wouldn’t count those chickens quite yet. There are a few players that deserve to win that award, just as much as he does.

My Top 5 Choices For NBA MVP Candidates:

5.) Kevin Durant

Well, I would have put Kevin Durant in a higher ranking, but he hasn’t really “wooed” me lately. Sure he has a great average (28.1 points per game), but if Kevin Durant didn’t have Russell Westbrook, I don’t think he would have that average. Just fined $25,000 for a menacing gesture he made after throwing down a crazy good dunk against golden state warriors. The menacing gesture, was him pretending to slice his throat. You sir, are not in my top 3 anymore because of this. I will give him credit though, he has had one hell of a season.

4.) Chris Paul

Clinching the Pacific Division Championship title (their first one!), after their victory against the L.A. Lakers, defeating them 109-95. He is one of the most dangerous point guards when in the playoffs, averaging 21 points, 10 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. During the season he is averaging 17 points, 9.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds, also averaging around 33 minutes per game. Dangerous. Though he was injured during the season, with a left knee injury in March, he still managed to play, having some of the best games. He even scored 29 points the game he was injured.

3.) Kobe Bryant

Poor Kobe, he’s been playing so well recently. Defensively.. not so much, but offensively, he’s been working hard, scoring baskets. Unfortunately, his season has ended with a torn achiles, but he had one of the best seasons of his life. He reached 30,000 points (milestone), finished with the highest effective field goal percentage, and highest assist percentage of his career. He carried the team for most of the season, if he wasn’t there, the Lakers would have been the laughing stock of the NBA.

2.) Carmelo Anthony

Melo is having one of the best seasons of his career this year. Averaging about 28 points per game, sometimes even scores over 50 points a game! He just passed Lebron having the number one ranked jersey sales, and he’s unstoppable. Sure, he’s had some hit and misses this season, the whole kevin garnett fiasco, and the suspension, but he’s pulled through. They have won 15 of their last 16 games, without key players such as Chandler, Martin, Stoudimire, or Rasheed Wallace. Melo is basically carrying the team to this point. You will be seeing his magic in the playoffs, as they just clinched number 2 seed. Honestly, I hope Melo beats Lebron for the title, he’s played great this year, and hasn’t had the best of luck, or teammates to help him.

1.) Lebron James

Obviously, I choose Lebron as number one, it’s not even fair how good he is on and off the court. He has been the best player in the league, on the best team in the league, and can go hard on both the offense, and defense. The Heat and Lebron were able to win 27 games in a row this season, that’s historic. There is no way he’s not going to win. The only thing I don’t like about him right at the moment, sitting out in games because they aren’t playing playoff contending teams. He’s not even playing against Cleveland, sure you have the best record in the NBA, sure you’re the best player in the NBA, but people pay to see you play. You’d rather sit there and watch your team play? I get that you don’t want to get an injury, but it just lacks stardom if you sit during those games. Stern fined Parker, and Duncan.. why wouldn’t he fine Lebron James.. Because he’s LeBron James.
