Only four games played on Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, but I think we have the luck of the Irish with us because we were able to squeeze out a few highlights for the day!
Best ‘If it connected would’ve been so pretty’ Play of the Night:
Boston vs. Pittsburgh – When Sidney Crosby or Tyler Seguin or Kris Letang are on the ice you wouldn’t be surprised if they made a fancy play to score a goal, but Brandon Sutter?! Sutter made a between the legs no look pass to Tyler Kennedy who was able to get a stick on it but just wasn’t able to put it past Tuukka Rask.
Best ‘Falling on your face’ Goal of the Night:
Boston vs. Pittsburgh – When you’re going to get your first goal of the year you might as well do it with a little flare, and that’s just what Joe Vitale of the Penguins did on Sunday. Pouncing on a rebound he went top shelf while falling to the ice.
Best Save of the Night:
Winnipeg vs. Ottawa – Robin Lehner didn’t face too many shots early in the third period but when he did he came up with some huge saves. Including this stop on Winnipeg’s Evander Kane on a 2-on-1 with Blake Wheeler. Kane let go a one timer that Lehner got over to make the amazing save on.
Precision Shot of the Night:
Buffalo vs. Washington – While the Capitals were on a power play Sunday Troy Brouwer let go a laser of a shot that the camera catches at a great angle to show going in. Mike Ribeiro makes a nice play to clear out a lane for Brouwer to get the power play goal.
Best Slump Breaking Goal of the Night:
Nashville vs. Edmonton – It had been 11 games since Jordan Eberle scored his last goal so he was due. He was finally able to pot one Sunday on Pekke Rinne after he hustled to a loose puck and brought it in the zone to zip a shot past Rinne.
Check out the slump breaking goal.
Best ‘Just cleaning up the trash’ Goal of the Night:
Nashville vs. Edmonton – Everyone in the NHL knows that sometimes you have to get down in the dirty areas to score goals. Magnus Paajarvi got well acquainted with this area against the Predators when he netted a power play goal by tapping in a rebound right in front of the crease.
Watch Paajarvi get Edmonton’s first goal of the night.
It may not have been a busy day in the NHL but it produced some good highlights! Check back again tomorrow for some more great highlights of the night!
