NHL Video: Saturday’s Best (and Worst) in the NHL

There were 13 games played Saturday, the most games played since opening day back in January. A full days worth of games only means one thing, highlights galore! Let’s get it started!

Best ‘You do all the work, I’ll take the credit’ Goal of the Night:

Minnesota vs. Colorado – After having a couple of injury ridden seasons Matt Duchene is finally healthy and doing what he does best. He works his way around a couple of Wild players to make the short pass to Gabriel Landeskog for the easy tap in goal.

Check out Duchene and Landeskog’s combined effort:

Best ‘Crap wasn’t my net’ Goal of the Night:

Washington vs. Boston – The Capitals only had one goal against the Bruins on Saturday and they didn’t even have to touch the puck. In the second period while down low in the Bruins zone the puck came to David Krejci who turned to try and clear it from in front of his net but it deflects off of teammate Johnny Boychuk’s skates and goes right in the net. Not really the clear that he was looking for.

Best ‘That’s a wrap’ Goal of the Night:

Ottawa vs. Buffalo – Kyle Turris would have the game winning goal against the Sabres propelling the Senators to a 4-3 overtime victory. It was the first goal that he scored that made our highlights though when he took the puck around the net in the second period and wrapped it in to give Ottawa their first lead of the game.

Check out Turris’ wrap around goal:

Funniest Moment of the Night:

Washington vs. Boston – The cameras catch some funny things some times at the games and Saturday was no exception. While Mike Ribeiro was sitting in the penalty box serving his 5 minute major for fighting he had a little interaction with some Bruins fans.

Best ‘Puck dropped, goal scored’ Play of the Night:

Detroit vs. Vancouver – The record for quickest goal in an NHL game was 5 seconds. Alex Burrows just missed the record when he scored 6 seconds into the game Saturday against the Red Wings.

Check out Burrows wasting no time for the goal:

Biggest Comeback Player of the Night:

Winnipeg vs. Toronto – The Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul has been out of the lineup since January 23rd when he suffered a broken forearm. In his first game back Saturday he had an impressive two goals. It might have been in a losing effort but was still impressive none the less.

Check out Lupul’s first goal of the game and first goal since last season:

Best Fights of the Night:

There were fights all over the league on Saturday but these were the best of the day.

Brad Marchand vs. Mike Ribeiro – Ribeiro has played 13 seasons in the NHL and this was his first fight. Not that bad for a first-timer

Matt Hendricks vs. Adam McQuaid – Hendricks had already fought once with Nathan Horton but he wasn’t finished there. He stood between McQuaid and Shawn Thornton with Thornton being the one who challenged him but he said no thanks I’ll take McQuaid.

Chris Neil vs. Robin Regehr – This was a big veteran heavyweight battle.

Paul Bissonnette vs. Jared Boll – Both of these guys are no strangers to a good fight and they entertained with a good hard scrap Saturday.

Best Saves of the Night:

Anton Khudobin on Nicklas Backstrom

Ryan Miller consecutive saves

Jake Allen on Andrew Cogliano

Best Goals of the Night:

Patrick Kane spin-o-rama

P.A. Parenteau flying goal

Chris Stewart game winning goal

Now THAT was a day FULL of highlights!
