NHL Video: Top plays of the night PLUS the Av’s ending the Hawks streak!

Blackhawk down, I repeat, Blackhawk down!

The Chicago Blackhawks streak of 30 straight games with a point, dating back to last season, was ended Friday night by the Colorado Avalanche. With the win the Avalanche will take two of our top honors for the night, so let’s find out which ones.

Biggest Upset and Best Team of the Night:

Blackhawks vs. Avalanche – It was going to take a full 60-minute team performance to hand the Blackhawks their first regulation loss of the season. Colorado had just that on Friday night when they broke Chicago’s streak with a 6-2 victory. It was the Av’s second period that did all the damage putting up four unanswered goals. Colorado had three players who had a huge game, Matt Duchene (1G, 3A), P.A. Parenteau (1G, 2A) and Paul Stastny (1G, 2A) all picked the right night for a multi-point game.

Check out a few of the Avalanche goals:

Best Goal of the Night:

Blackhawks vs. Avalanche – Despite suffering their first regulation loss of the season, the Blackhawks are getting our Goal of the Night. It was Chicago who got on the board first with a pretty tic-tac-toe goal in the first period. Brandon Saad to Marian Hossa to Jonathan Toews who finishes it off with the goal.

Best Save of the Night:

Winnipeg Jets vs. Florida Panthers – The game may have gotten off to a poor start for him, and his team may have lost 3-2 in overtime, but Jacob Markstrom made the save of the night in trying to keep his team in the game. Winnipeg on the power play came up ice on a 2-on-1 with Blake Wheeler feeding James Wright for the one timer but Markstrom comes up with a huge save to keep the the Jets from extending their lead.

Best Fight of the Night:

Edmonton Oilers vs. Nashville Predators – While last night’s fight of the night may have been a toss-up, tonight there was a clear winner. Mike Brown of the Oilers dropped the gloves with the Predator’s Rich Clune in the first period looking to give his team a spark already being down 2-0. To quote NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes on twitter), “There was fisticuffs a plenty!”

Biggest Oops (I did it again) Play of the Night:

Edmonton Oilers vs. Nashville Predators – The Oilers Devan Dubnyk had a rough night Friday night being pulled from the game in the first period before his team went on to be shutout by the Predators 6-0. In that first period Dubnyk let in a goal that no goalie ever wants to let in. Nashville’s David Legwand chipped the puck into the zone from the red line and after one bounce on the ice the puck slipped right underneath Dubnyk’s arm for the goal.
