Lin Zhu Upsets Zhang Shuai, Heads To Jiangxi Semifinals

Lin Zhu upset top-seeded Zhang Shuai 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1 at the Jiangxi Open on Friday to advance to the semifinals to take on sixth-seeded Saisai Zheng.

The 2 1/2-hour match saw a lot of drama, and Zhang committed 50 unforced errors and eight double faults over the course of the marathon match.

It’s been more than 2 years since Zhu has appeared in a semifinal on the WTA tour.

Alouettes Release Johnny Manziel

The Montreal Alouettes have released former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Montreal traded two first round draft picks to acquire Manziel last year, and the CFL has announced that it will not approve a Manziel contract should another CFL team attempt to sign him.

Apparently, Manziel violated his contract with the Alouettes, according to the team.

With the AAF in play, and the XFL arriving next season, it is likely that Manziel is looking to latch on with either of those two leagues as opposed to continuing to play in the CFL.

However, if Manziel is looking to draw significant interest his play in the CFL left much to be desired.

Manziel appeared in 8 games for Montreal during his tenure, throwing 5 touchdowns verse 7 interceptions, certainly disappointing numbers that won’t elicit much excitement.

Argonauts Sign Cory ‘Poop’ Johnson

Get ready for an endless amount of toilet jokes and bathroom humor because the Toronto Argonauts have signed defensive tackle Cory ‘Poop’ Johnson, according to an official team announcement.

Johnson, 26, has played 25 games over two seasons for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after trying to latch on to NFL teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons.

Toronto has been revamping their defensive line and Johnson is another addition that they hope will aid them in their efforts.

Sparks Sign Ashley Walker

The Los Angeles Sparks signed forward Ashley Walker last week, bringing the veteran forward back to the WNBA.

Walker, the 12th overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm, is currently playing in the Turkish League for Mersin where she is
averaging 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.4 assists while shooting 58% from the field.
