Aaron Stewart, the son of late gold great Payne Stewart, has been appointed tournament director of the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Florida.

“I’m really excited to be with the tournament side of things, back in the golf industry,” Stewart said (h/t ESPN). “And I’m still with the company I grew up with.”

“I didn’t play as much then. I was more into other sports,” Stewart said. “I’d always go out to the golf course, and I was around my dad when he was practicing. I was more into the golf cart, driving that around.”

While Stewart had intentions to play professionally, even going to his father’s alma mater SMU, he ended up taking a different path professionally.

“I ended up going a different route,” Stewart said. “I didn’t have the desire to play professionally. I was a little burned out, to be honest.”

Stewart will now take on the role of running a season opener for the LGPA Tour.n

“It makes each week really exciting for us to see if we’ll have a new person on the roster,” Stewart said Monday, one day after Cheyenne Knight won her first LPGA Tour event to qualify for the season opener. “It’s a great transition into the season. We’re thrilled to be in that position.”

Brooks Koepka

The offseason was a lot of work for Brooks Koepka, the number 1 player in the world golf ranking.

Koepka, who returns to competition this week in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, spent the majority of his short offseason recovering from stem cell treatment on his left knee.

“My knee was bugging me from about March on,” Koepka said (h/t ESPN). Koepka said that the last four months were a “struggle”.

While Koepka never discussed his injury during the season, he said that his knee made it difficult to walk down hills and the ailment kept him from practicing.

Despite all of his accomplishments, Koepka still would rather win tournaments as opposed to awards.

“I don’t play for awards,” Koepka said. “I play to win tournaments.”

“LeBron has won only four MVPs,” Koepka said. “I’m pretty sure he’s been the best player.”
