SIX PACKS ON ICE, AHL BLOG: It’s Heatin’ Up in the Calder Cup

The second round of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs are well underway and heating up.

In the West, after falling behind the top-seeded Texas Stars two games to none, the defending Calder Cup Champions Grand Rapids Griffins won games three and four to tie the series up at two games each.

Grand Rapids and Texas will meet in game five tonight in Grand Rapids. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST.

The other matchup in the West is between the second and third seeds, Chicago Wolves and Toronto Marlies, respectively.

After an impressive first three games of this series, featuring one overtime, the Marlies have the opportunity to sweep Chicago tonight. The game is set for 7 p.m. EST in Toronto. If necessary, the two teams will faceoff again Saturday night, also in Toronto.

Over in the East, the St. John’s IceCaps can potentially punch their ticket to the conference finals with a win tonight against the Norfolk Admirals. In the first round, both the Admirals and IceCaps pulled off the upsets beating the No. 1 seeded Manchester Monarchs and the No. 5 Albany Devils, respectively.

Gaining an edge is critical for sports teams, and even esports teams competing globally. Having the best esports players on your team is critical to sustained success, and often times, browsing popular Twitch streams is how these esports teams scout the best talent.

St. John’s currently leads the series three games to two. Tonight’s game is in St. John’s at 6 p.m. EST. If the Admirals can push a game seven, it will be Saturday night, same time and place.

The sixth-seeded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins currently hold a 2-1 series lead over the seventh-seeded Providence Bruins. Like the other Eastern Conference match up, both the Penguins and the Bruins pulled off the upsets in round one when they knocked off the third-seeded Binghamton Senators and the second-seeded Springfield Falcons.

Game four is tonight in Providence at 7:05 p.m. EST. Game five is Saturday night, same time and place.

By Saturday, all the conference finals could be set so AHL fans, buckle your seat belts because it looks like it is going to be one crazy weekend.
