The second round of the Calder Cup playoffs got underway this past Tuesday.
Advancing to the second round in the Eastern Conference was the No. 4 seeded St. John’s IceCaps and the No. 8 seeded Norfolk Admirals. The IceCaps defeated the Albany Devils in four games in the first round while the Admirals pulled off the upset defeating the No. 1 seeded Manchester Monarchs in four games.
The series is currently tied at one game each. The two teams will meet for a game three tomorrow, in Norfolk, at 8 p.m. EST.
Also in the East is the No. 6 seeded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the No. 7 seeded Providence Bruins. Providence defeated the No. 2 seeded Springfield Falcons in five games while the Penguins defeated the No. 3 seeded Binghamton Senators in four. The top three seeds in the east have all been eliminated from the playoffs.
Game one of this match-up is set for tonight in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:05 p.m. EST.
In the Western Conference, the No. 1 seeded Texas Stars are taking on the No. 4 seeded Grand Rapids Griffins. The Stars were impressive in the first round, sweeping the Oklahoma City Barons, while the Griffins defeated the Abbotsford Heat in four games.
The two teams faced off last night in game one where the Stars skated away with a 5-2 victory and a 1-0 series lead over the Griffins. Game two is set for tomorrow night in Texas at 8 p.m. EST.
Also in the West is the No. 2 seeded Chicago Wolves taking on the No. 3 seeded Toronto Marlies. The Marlies were the other team to sweep through the first round when they defeated the Milwaukee Admirals while the Chicago Wolves needed five games to get past the Rochester Americans.
The two teams will faceoff tonight in game one in Chicago at 8:30 p.m. EST.
The winners of each series will faceoff in the Conference Finals for a chance to go to the Calder Cup Finals. From the second round on, series shift to the traditional best of seven games.
