LAWS ON THE COURT: NBA Edition, Will the Raptors Represent at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game?

It is that time of year again! The 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend is less than a month away and with the all-star voting ending in a few days, the question that all Toronto Raptors fans ask themselves still remains: Who is attending NBA All-Star Game?

NBA.com said it perfectly, “We know the fan balloting to select the NBA All-Star Game starters is a beauty pageant more than a referendum on results.” This is beyond true. Every year, we see the same players getting votes, even the ones who have not touched the ball all season. For example, Bryant played a few games this season and Rondo has yet to play one, but both are leading in votes. Ideally, eligibility for votes would be based on games played, but then again, this is the big leagues.

Toronto easily falls under the radar in this Miss NBA pageant. They are the only Canadian team in the league and not all of their games are televised in the United States. However, no one can doubt that Toronto has pulled it together after letting Rudy Gay go. Since the trade, they have the best record in the Eastern Conference (Yes, better than Indiana and Miami). Although, the Eastern conference is definitely the weak of the two, Toronto has pushed their way into third and is shocking NBA fans one game at a time.

Demar DoRozan has stepped his game up and deserves a spot on the all-star team, absolutely. He is leading a team that is first in the Atlantic Division and at the top of the Eastern Conference with no sign of slowing down. Kyle Lowry has undoubtedly been playing outstanding basketball and the young Jonas Valanciunas is showing the league what he is capable of. The Raptors are playing great team basketball and have a core group of young guys, so it is hard to say one over the other deserves it. However, with limited spots on the team, it is hard to say all three can or would be allotted spots.

One representative from the only Canadian team is crucial. That representative should be Demar DeRozan. Now with less than a week left, this is all possible. The reserves are now up to the coaches to decide. This concept is genius. Fans choose who they want to watch; coaches choose who should be watched.

Bottom line, we know the Toronto Raptors have all-stars in the making, but the team leader deserves a spot. We will see if the coaches agree. Keep the votes going until January 20. Players will be announced January 23. Let’s go Raptors!
