NHL Video: Friday’s Best (and Worst) in the NHL

Only three games on tap Friday night but there was still plenty that went down in the NHL to bring you the best and worst of the night.

Best Jock Dropping Move of the Night:

Detroit vs. Edmonton – When you try and think of who has some of the best moves in the league Pavel Datsyuk is without a doubt at the top of the list. After his team battled back to tie the game and force an overtime, Datsyuk was at it again making a move on Jeff Petry of the Oilers and then beating Devan Dubnyk for the game winning goal.

Best Shootout Move of the Night:

New Jersey vs. Philadelphia – It seems as of late that no matter how many games are played in a night there is at least one shootout. Friday had the Flyers and Devils in a shootout with Philly pulling out the win and getting the full 2 points. It was captain Claude Giroux who got the SO winner to give his team a much needed win.

Best Fight of the Night:

Detroit vs. Edmonton – Just one week after their last meeting Jordin Tootoo and Mike Brown went at it again Friday night. After Brown put a hit on one of his teammates, Tootoo took exception to this and they dropped the gloves a short time later

Best Quote of the Night:

Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings – The Red Wings season has been far from we are used to seeing from the original six team. They got back on the winning track Friday night and after the game Pavel Datsyuk had some interesting comments for the media. I guess this is what happens when English isn’t your first language.

“We’re having a tough time on the road, but now I hope we’re unstoppable like a red machine.”

Biggest ‘Please tell me I didn’t just do that’ Play of the Night:

Detroit vs. Edmonton – Making a mistake to cost your team the game is one thing, but putting the puck in your own net to tie the game that would eventually be won in overtime by your opponent is the ultimate kick to the junk. This was the reality for Oilers defensemen Jeff Petry Friday night when he put the puck right in his own net while trying to clear it out of the zone.

Best ‘Throw it on net and see what happens’ Goal of the Night:

Nashville vs. Calgary – One of the things you will hear hockey commentators mention most is how it is always a good idea to throw the puck on net and see what happens. This is exactly what Lee Stempniak did Friday night to find Curtis Glencross for his second goal of the game and leading his team to a 6-3 win over the Predators.

Biggest ‘Rock your socks off’ Hit of the Night:

New Jersey vs. Philadelphia – The Flyers Brayden Schenn is not afraid to throw his body around and put some big hits on opponents, so it was no surprise when he did just that Friday night. Schenn lined up Peter Harrold and then rocked him into the boards down below the goal line.

New Jersey vs. Philadelphia – Prior to Philly’s last game goalie Ilya Bryzgalov made some comments how if the Flyers didn’t win the games against the Devils then their season would be done. He finally backed up his words with some great play on Friday to give his team a 2-1 shootout victory.

Find out what Bryzgalov had to say after the game about the win

Best Goal of the Night:

Detroit vs. Edmonton – Taylor Hall got his team on the board first against the Red Wings also earning our goal of the night honors. After Hall brought the puck into the zone he split two defensemen and continued to the net just slipping it past Jimmy Howard.
