Starting next year, NY Football Blogs will disappear and a new blog directed to all NFL teams will emerge. We here at NY Football Blogs figured we should start now with one of the games of games from today:
New England Patriots 41- Denver Broncos 23
By Frankie “The Sports Guy” Maniscalco
This game unfortunately did not show us the “Tim Tebow” most of us have gotten used to. The problem for Tebow was he ran into another guy with a T in his name ( Tom Brady ) and a team that has gotten better and better ( especially on defense ) since the beginning of the year. Today “Tom and Bill time” was the Patriots’ version of “Tebow time”. The main thing we will learn from this game is more than just who won and who dominated, but simply what Tebow is really made of. What will he do next time and how he will react after losing this game?
As someone who follows the AFC East very closely since I am a Jets fan, I have gotten used to the “Belichick” way. Many forget that the Patriots coach actually was the Jets head coach for a few minutes. I still dream of what it would be like to have him on our side, but enough of that as I am regressing from this post to talk about my own Christmas list.
The Broncos knew that they needed to play big and probably score a lot so they actually came out much stronger in this game than many of the games this season Tim Tebow has played in. The Broncos actually scored on their first three possessions, but unfortunately after the Patriots warmed up the three scores by the Broncos did not matter much.
Tim Tebow was only 11 for 22 for 194 yards. He did not have a passing touchdown and he did not throw an interception while Tom Brady was 23 for 34 for 320 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brady also did not throw an interception. Tim Tebow had a rushing touchdown in the game.
Although the game was close for a while, the Patriots took over in the second half as the Broncos gave up a few turnovers which the Patriots ( as they most of the time do ) converted into points.
Brady’s two touchdown passes went to TE Aaron Hernandez and Chad Ochocinco ( yes, really ). The Patiots had many receivers whom Brady threw to including Hernandez ( 9 receptions, 129 yards and 1 touchdown ). Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, and a cast of others who were targets of Brady.
While Brady had a “Tom” type of day Tim Tebow found himself on the ground or almost on the ground a number of times. He also find himself scrambling around while the secondary of the Patriots did a much better job covering receivers this week than the week before against the Redskins.
So what does this win mean for the Patriots? It means another AFC East Title and also some relief after almost losing the week before against Washington. It also means Tom Brady is going to the playoffs again.
For Tim Tebow and the Broncos the loss means they did not create a little space between themselves and the other teams in the AFC West ( as of now, every team is in the hunt for the playoffs in the AFC West ).This is a good test to see how Tebow and the Broncos will bounce back against the struggling Buffalo Bills next Saturday ( Christmas Eve ) in Buffalo.
