NFL BLOG, 3RD and 10: Have the Jets Come (Back) to Life?

The Jets surprised everyone in Week 11. The team had had a rocky week. There appeared to be a schism in their locker room. An anonymous comment emerged from a Jets player stating that he thought Tebow was “terrible.” The fact that a fellow Jets player was tasteless enough to openly bad mouth his own teammate is somehow sadder than their record. This is the second season in a row where a quarterback was publically criticized by a fellow teammate on the Jets.

The common denominator in both these circumstances?

The Jets were an embarrassment with a dismal record and no prospects for improvement. Woody Johnson threw in his own two cents and said that he didn’t sign up to own a 3-6 team.

The downward spiral of the Jets seemed inevitable, and is was all for the world to see on PPV streaming platform and PPV sports streams.

And then Week 11 happened. The Jets were playing the Rams. St Louis doesn’t have the best team and is in a major rebuilding phase with one of the youngest rosters in the league. However, bookers were getting crazy bets on the Rams, and Jets trash talking was at an all time low. Yet, somehow, Mark ‘Turnover’ Sanchez was.. well.. good. The QB who had a passer rating of 52% going into the game completed 15 of 20 passes for 178 yards, one TD, and wait for it-NO turnovers.

The question that now remains is can the Jets, and Sanchez, do it again?

If you watched the win over the Rams you know it wasn’t a massacre. The Jets were awful in the first half: blown coverage, failed fake punt plays, bad pass protection and a blocked field goal. The Jets may have started to click and pulled off a win but they still have all the issues they started with. They also won against a bad team. Finally, whatever motivation the team may be able to build off Thursday won’t last against the Patriots. They may have something to play for in Week 12 but Brady and Co. are going to show the Jets that they were kidding themselves.

Don’t be tricked into thinking that the Jets can recover this season. There is far too much work to be done and not even Tebow can help them now. The only thing that will persist is their ability to lose.
